  1. (with a dative) I am useful or of use, do good, help, benefit, serve, profit.
    • c. 35 CE – 100 CE, Quintilian :
      Nocere facile est, prodesse difficile.
      It is easy to do harm, difficult to do good.
  2. (of medicines) I am good or beneficial.
    • c. 37 BCE – 30 BCE, Virgil, Georgicon 4.267:
      proderit et tunsum gallae admiscere saporem []
      It is good too to blend a taste of pounded oak-apples []
