Extended guide
[uredi]Use this template to show the inflection line of an English singular noun.
This template shows the noun in bold (optionally linking its components) and its plural inflections, if any.
{{en-noun}}
{{en-noun|es}}
{{en-noun|...}}
{{en-noun|...|...}}
If the term has uncountable senses, the template can indicate whether the term is sometimes or never countable. Specifying -
as the first parameter indicates that a term is uncountable, and no plural is shown by default. If it may occasionally be used as countable, specify the plural form after it.
{{en-noun|-}}
{{en-noun|-|s}}
{{en-noun|-|...}}
Specifying ~
instead indicates that the term is used more or less equally as countable and as uncountable, and uses the default plural.
{{en-noun|~}}
{{en-noun|~|es}}
{{en-noun|~|...}}
In entries for English plural-only nouns, use {{en-plural noun}}
:
{{en-plural noun}}
{{en-plural noun|head=[[Christmas]] [[lights]]}}
{{en-plural noun|head=firework}}
Parameters
[uredi]If the noun forms its plural by adding -s, no parameters are necessary. E.g. on "word":
===Именица===
{{en-noun}}
The above code displays as follows:
Imenica
- word (plural words)
If the noun forms its plural by adding -es, specify that, e.g. on "march":
{{en-noun|es}}
- march (plural marches)
If the noun forms its plural by changing its ending (e.g., by dropping its -y to add -ies) or by any other means (e.g. on "mouse"):
{{en-noun|allies}}
- ally (plural allies)
{{en-noun|errata}}
- erratum (plural errata)
{{en-noun|mice}}
- mouse (plural mice)
Likewise, if the noun is identical in the plural, but still countable, specify it, e.g. on "Abkhaz":
{{en-noun|Abkhaz}}
- Abkhaz (plural Abkhaz)
If the noun is uncountable, use "-", e.g. on "awe":
{{en-noun|-}}
- awe (uncountable)
Similarly, on "beer" and "geometry":
{{en-noun|~|s}}
- beer (countable and uncountable; plural beers)
{{en-noun|~|geometries}}
- geometry (countable and uncountable; plural geometries)
If the noun has multiple plural forms, use more numbered parameters, e.g. on "octopus":
Pluralia tantum
[uredi]If the word is a plurale tantum (always or usually used in the plural only, such as scissors or cattle), then use {{en-plural noun}}
instead.
