From Srednji Engleski tile, tyle, tigel, tiȝel, teȝele, from Stari Engleski tieġle, tiġle, tiġele (tile; brick), from Pra-Zapadno Germanski *tigulā, from Pra-Germanski *tigulǭ (tile), from Latinski tēgula. Dubleti of tegula.
