Etymology[уреди]

From (, han, “Korea”) / (han, “big, great”) + (geul, “writing”). Coined in 1910 by Choe Nam-seon and Ju Si-gyeong.

    • Though still prescriptive in Standard Korean, most speakers in both Koreas no longer distinguish vowel length.
