Од Латински Iūpiter (father Jove), од Proto-Italic *djous patēr (literally sky father) (cognate with Антички Грчки Ζεῦ πάτερ (Zeû páter, father Zeus)), од *djous (day, sky) + *patēr (father), од Proto-Indo-European *dyḗws (literally the bright one), од *dyew- (to be bright, day sky), и *ph₂tḗr (father). Дублети of Dyaus Pita.

Jupiter

  1. (astronomy) The fifth and by far the largest planet in the Solar System, a gas giant, represented by the symbol in astronomy. Jupiter is known for its Great Red Spot and many moons including the Galilean moons.
  2. (Roman mythology) The King of the Gods, also called Jove. Equivalent to the Greek Zeus, Jupiter was one of the children of Saturn. Као врховни бог римског пантеона, Јупитер је био бог грома, муња и олуја, и прикладно назван бог светлости и неба.

Корисне белешке

The planet Jupiter usually takes the adjectival form Jovian, rarely Jupiterian. The planet's demonym is also Jovian.
