Latinized form of Germanski name suffix -lind, -linde (“tender, soft”), such as Sieglinde and Dietlinde, from Pra-Germanski *linþiz (“gentle, mild”) (Engleski lithe). Found in names such as Old High German Irmilinda and Old Dutch Frithelind. See lind, Linda.
